Annotations

When I read things I tend to assess them based on what the message of the piece is. If the message is a call to action, I look to highlight what and why they have decided to have that call to actions. If the piece is describing how to do something I pick out the details that are given. If the piece takes a stance against or for something, I tend to try to assess what my stance is first and what I know about the topic and then highlight where I agree and disagree with them. I also try to figure out what their level or knowledge on the subject is compared to mine. Sometimes, if the piece is meant to educate me on a topic I’ll also step back as I try to figure out what I know about the topic first and as I’m reading see where My knowledge is the same, or maybe differs or could be wrong in certain areas of the subject. I look for evidence and fact to back of certain points of view.

What I learned about annotations after today is that it’s a great idea to organize your annotations using color coding or symbols to quickly retrieve information about specific things discussed within the reading. In the first and second order thinking piece I thought it was good to color code information about each of those so I could go back and immediately find the information I was seeking on the topic and wouldn’t confuse it with information on the other
